We played a gunfight game in 54mm.
In the past, we had played several times with teams of lawmen, paired with a bandit team they had to stop. To do something new, I fabricated something different.
The scenario was : in the Bank of Tombstone, silver and gold from the mining is stored and will be collected for transport by Pinkerton detectives. A coalition of bandits and aoutlows is planning to rob the bank and the Post office, before the valuables transported out of town.
As gamemaster and with one other player we will form the lawmen. Me with Waytt Earp and his brothers and doc Holiday, the other player with the Pinkertons, will be facing 6 teams of bandits : the Daltons (Joachim), the Jesse James gang (Alberik), bandoleros (Peter), the team of the Good the Bad, the Ugly and the Handsome(Ronny), former Judge Carter and his hired men (Patrick), and Lucky Luke and the deserters of the army (Geoffrey). All players except me as gamemaster (with the Earps) had drawn their team of 4 figures. Steven was the "chosen one" with the Pinkertons.
Everybody had the idea the "good guys" would all be killed, and the bandit teams would turn against each other after that happening. This looked to be to easy for them, so they were all suspicious other figures in the town, could be activated by me to thwart their plans. Nothing of that kind was forseen, but I did nothing to change their mind of course. I had made another plan.
The bandit coalition, were left alone to make a strategy... however, as gamemaster, I had prepared secret misson for the bandits... One was one of the gangs had made a secret arrangement with the Marshall to do everything to make the robbery fail and would be awared generously. One other player was informed that one of the other bandits was a rat, and had the mission to eliminate that team. Two players were inforrmed their were baggs of gold with a blue ribbon, worth more than the sacs of silver and had to go for those baggs, one bandit had to eliminate the undertaker as vengance , and the last one had a very big contract to kill Wyatt Earp. Once they ended their strategy planning, the secret missions were distributed.
The turncoat player had to signal to the gamemaster he was the "one" by clearly pulling 3 times his nose. Hower, Steven nor I had noticed it. So we were in the dark about who was on our side.
A number of loose figures were spread over the table. Some of them have a number on their base, reffering to a list of figures. This list gives every figure a number of abilities and their weapons that can be used in the game. The figures in the teams are part of that list, each with their own number , ability, shooting capacity, brawl, dodge, capacity, their weapons and ammo. Ammo used must be indicated, and when empty, the gun has to be reloaded. these capacities correspond to a die type from D4, D6,D8,D10, D12 up to D20. When shooting at another figure the shooter throws his shooting die (corrected up or down - e.g. aiming, distance, cover) that has to be higher than the dodge value thown by the target. If so, it is a wound. For the secondary characters, the second wound is fatal. For the team leader, the 4th wound is the end. Being wounded gives a negative correction on the abilities.
The Earp brothers saw the first bandits coming closer and opend fire. "38. José "Pancho" Arango Arámbula" team leader of the bandoleros, received the first wound. It made the bandit groups more prudent. On the other side of the town, Lucky Luke's team and the carter team were making progress, eliminating one Pinkerton. However, Geoffrey with Lucky Luke, believed the loose figurant figures would be a trapp. So he started shooting at those on front of him. One was killed, but the other one (numbered figure 39. Hannibal Bean ) had a good dodge (D10) and also Lucky ability (rethrow of a bad dodge throw), and survived al the shots. Geoffrey did shoot several turns a this figures missing every time, even a brawl turend in Bean's favor. This way, Geoffrey lost so much time, he couldn't participate in the robbery. Suddenly the bandoleros turned on the other bandits. Now it was clear who was our ally. The whole situation became hilarious, one LOLafter the other. Moreover, Patrick, who had been able to take a bag of silver from the postoffice, was now targetted by Ronny, with his figure having moved by cart. It became chaotic fun all over the place. In the end, against all odds, the robbery was a complete failure, non entered the bank, only Alberik with the mission to eliminate the undertaker succeeded in his secret mission. Only one lawman out of action.
I think this will turn out a game for every body present to remember for the years to come for the fun we had.
